GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) institutions play a crucial role in preserving and sharing cultural heritage. These institutions can reach wider audiences through digital platforms, making underrepresented histories and artistic treasures more accessible than ever. This Conversation Hour will explore the significance of GLAM initiatives, focusing on how digital tools and open knowledge platforms enhance public engagement with cultural heritage. Using the Khalili Collections as a case study, we will discuss the impact of digitization, partnerships with Wikimedia, and strategies for making cultural and historical knowledge more widely available.

Our speaker, Dr. Martin Poulter, a seasoned digital knowledge specialist, has worked extensively with GLAM institutions and is currently working as a Wikimedian in Residence at the Khalili Foundation to bridge the gap between academia, cultural institutions, and open knowledge platforms. With his deep expertise in digital humanities and Wikimedia collaborations, Dr. Poulter will provide insights into how GLAM institutions can partner with Wikimedia projects for mutual knowledge exchange. He will also share strategies for making cultural heritage more accessible, highlighting the role of Wikimedia in promoting knowledge equity.
