Mandatory questions | ||
Why are you running for the DCW Board? What unique contributions do you bring to the role? What areas would you like to learn more about? | I am running for the DCW Board because I believe in the power of Wikimedia to preserve and expand knowledge, particularly in areas that remain underrepresented in mainstream narratives. Deoband Community Wikimedia has played a crucial role in bridging knowledge gaps related to Islamic scholarship, South Asian history, and cultural heritage. As an active contributor and organiser, I want to help DCW grow into a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable knowledge hub. If elected, I would like to explore strategies to make Wikimedia spaces more welcoming for new contributors, particularly women and non-English speakers.
Please describe your Wikimedia experience (such as contributions to the Wikimedia projects, activities as a Wikimedia movement organizer, or other relevant participation). | My journey as a Wikimedian began in year 2024, and I have actively contributed in various capacities. I have contributed to Wikipedia on various topics. My focus has been on ensuring well-researched, neutral, and comprehensive documentation of these topics. Besides this, I have co-organised and participated in Wikimedia training workshops to onboard new editors.
From your perspective, what should the Deoband Community Wikimedia prioritize over the next 3 to 6 years? Why do you consider these priorities to be the most important? | One of the key priorities for Deoband Community Wikimedia (DCW) should be strengthening the reliability and depth of content by collaborating with academic institutions. DCW can collaborate with universities, research centres, and libraries to gain access to scholarly resources, books, and journals. Faculty members and researchers can be encouraged to contribute their expertise, helping improve the accuracy and comprehensiveness of Wikipedia articles. Secondly, it is also important to encourage new contributors, especially women and linguistic minorities, by creating targeted mentorship programs and multilingual editing initiatives. Third, it is also crucial to have advanced training programs to help existing editors refine their research and content skills. It is also important to develop a long-term engagement plan to retain contributors beyond workshops and training sessions. Additionally, developing long-term funding and grant strategies to support DCW's projects is also vital.
