Language Activism and Wikimedia Incubator

28th DCW Conversation Hour
This Conversation Hour features Jon Harald Søby, a bureaucrat and administrator on the Norwegian (Bokmål) Wikipedia and a former administrator on Wikidata. A founding member of Wikimedia Norge he has been actively contributing to the organization since August 2016 as an employee. With extensive experience in multilingual Wikimedia projects, he has worked on initiatives that promote linguistic diversity, accessibility, and the integration of underrepresented languages into Wikimedia platforms. His expertise in Wikidata and structured data also contributes to improving the discoverability and sustainability of linguistic content online.


In this session, Jon Harald Søby will discuss how the Wikimedia Incubator supports the growth of new language communities and the process of developing test projects into full Wikimedia wikis. He’ll also share insights from his work with the Language Committee and offer guidance for communities aiming to launch new Wikimedia projects in underrepresented languages.
