35th DCW Conversation Hour
This Conversation Hour features Puthiya Purayil Sneha, a Senior Research Manager for the Open Knowledge Initiatives (OKI) Program at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH). She formerly worked with the Centre for Internet and Society for more than a decade. She is a researcher working in the areas of digital media and cultures, open knowledge, arts and humanities scholarship and pedagogy, gender, and digital rights. In this conversation, Sneha will reflect on the evolving landscape of the digital knowledge commons, especially in the context of expanding digitisation efforts and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. She will discuss how ongoing archival and open knowledge projects contribute to sustaining the commons, the emerging challenges related to ownership, access, and ethics, and the broader questions about the nature of knowledge creation and dissemination in multilingual contexts. We will also explore how underrepresented Indian languages navigate these technological shifts, the implications for equity and participation, and what these developments mean for the future of open digital knowledge ecosystems.
