35th DCW Conversation Hour

This Conversation Hour features Puthiya Purayil Sneha, a researcher working at the intersection of digital cultures, open knowledge, and multilingual digital infrastructures. She has been associated with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), where her work has explored themes including digital humanities in India, digitisation practices, access to knowledge, and the social and ethical implications of emerging digital technologies. Her extensive research particularly focuses on Indian languages, low-resource communities, and the changing dynamics of knowledge creation in digital spaces shaped by new technologies such as AI.

In this conversation, Sneha will reflect on the evolving landscape of the digital knowledge commons, especially in the context of expanding digitisation efforts and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. She will discuss how ongoing archival and open knowledge projects contribute to sustaining the commons, the emerging challenges related to ownership, access, and ethics, and the broader questions about the nature of knowledge creation and dissemination in multilingual contexts. We will also explore how underrepresented Indian languages navigate these technological shifts, the implications for equity and participation, and what these developments mean for the future of open digital knowledge ecosystems.
