DCW Conversation Hour is an open conversation hour by the Deoband Community Wikimedia for everyone in the world. It focuses on Wikimedia movement strategy initiatives such as increasing the sustainability of the movement, and helps invest in the skills and leadership development across Wikimedia entities. The conversation hour innovates in the free knowledge, through the prism of evaluation, iteration, and adaptation.

DCW Conversation Hour went live for the first time in September 2022. We standardized it in March 2023 when we invited Dr. Nicole Schwitter to present on the effect of offline meetups of Wikimedia communities. Since then, the conversation hour touches issues that relate to the global free knowledge movement and helps the movement's sustainability.

DCW Progress Prism is the Deoband Community Wikimedia's engagement call, which focuses on fostering sustainable growth within the affiliate as part of the global Wikimedia movement. This title reflects the call's purpose, encompassing discussions about the DCW's past achievements, its current endeavors, and the future progress it aspires to achieve. Moreover, it underscores how the DCW can contribute to the broader global movement of knowledge-sharing.

History
The Deoband Community Wikimedia's guiding principle has been always to Evaluate, Iterate, and Adapt, to further the Movement Strategy Recommendations, contributing in the wider Movement Strategy Initiatives set for 2030. Previously, the DCW used to organise a monthly offline meetup in New Delhi, which subject to its strategic trajectory was shifted to online mode in April 2023. In 2023, we conducted two offline community meetings in Delhi, on 18 February and 20 March respectively. Subsequently, all of the community calls were shifted to online mode from April 2023 onwards. The meetings were subsequently held through Google Meet on: 26 April, 23 May, 25 June, 31 July, 31 August, 30 October, and 28 November 2023, post which, the frequency of the call was also modified.

"How you communicate visually is just as important as what you say"
Design thinking is the secret to making your voice stand out in a noisy digital world. Most people have the software, but they lack the strategy to make an impact.
Our course is designed to bridge that gap. Led by researcher and designer Saumyaa Naidu, this cohort-based program moves you from design theory to digital execution.

About the instructor
Based in Bangalore, Saumyaa Naidu is a researcher in digital cultures and digital rights. She holds a BA in Communication Design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (2010) and an MA in Social Design from Ambedkar University (2017), in New Delhi. She has worked with the Centre for Internet and Society as a Policy Officer from May 2016 to January 2020, and as Senior Designer from January 2021 to November 2022.

About the course
Our course, Visual Communication: Principles and Practice for Digital Design, offers a deep dive into the fundamental theories and practical applications of effective design. This program bridges the gap between traditional design principles and modern digital execution, focusing on how to design for specific contexts and audiences.

Throughout the eight sessions, you will move from understanding the design process to mastering complex layouts and data visualizations.
